Before WWII, making your own clothes was common practice. But today, clothing is mostly bought and discarded, rather than self-made, and kept.
Fast fashion hasn’t just disconnected people from making—it has also abstracted the ways we express ourselves through dress. But this workshop is going to challenge that.
Come reconsider garment life cycles—and re-evaluate the value of your clothing—by creating paper interventions on second hand garments.
Looking to long traditions of using paper as a textile, such as Japanese kamiko (paper clothing), this workshop will give you a stronger understanding of how garments are made, extend your awareness about the ills of fast-fashion, and show you whole news possibilities in lo-fi, DIY garment manufacturing and modification.
