In this interactive presentation, Tara Rakjumar OAM and Nithya Gopu Solomon of Natya Sudha Dance Company show you how a rich, diverse body of performance practice and knowledge has been developed by expanding traditional repertoires with new, contemporary influences from theatre, martial arts, yoga and other dance styles.
Through discussion and live performances, ‘Margam – Lineage’ spotlights a 30-year creative development process by which Tara Rajkumar OAM, along with her Natya Sudha Dance Company and other collaborators, took a centuries-old classical Indian dance style from the edge of extinction to a major performance practice that resonates with mainstream Australian audiences.
A rich and diverse showcase of artistic works, voices and views. The event includes:
– In conversation with Tara Rajkumar OAM with rare video screenings
– A live performance of a collaborative work from Nithya Solomon, Shyama Sasidharan, Meghala Hirasave, Bindu Rajendren, Bhadra Rajendren, Ananya Chari, Ganesha Sarma, Vivek Bannirchelvam, with original dance, music and spoken word
– A panel discussion with Emma Peel, Caroline Bowditch, Ria Soemardjo
