Bringing together artists and arts workers who live or work regionally in Victoria, this talk asks how we establish and foster creative and cultural centres in regional locations. How should art service and represent regional and remote communities, and how effective are ‘Creative Cities’ in establishing these creative epicentres?

With speakers from Creative Geelong, Creative Gippsland and Creative Ballarat, as well as speakers from independent arts organizations including Platform Arts, we will cover:

– Commissioning and developing legacy arts projects in regional communities
– Embedding visibility within regional institutions
– Navigating contemporary arts practice in regional communities
– How can we connect and collaborate across state, using regionality to our advantage

This discussion will follow on from themes and provocations discussed during the inaugural Energetical Symposium, presented by Platform Arts and Deakin University in Geelong in March 2020. The program brought together female and female-identifying artists and arts workers living and working regionally in Victoria, and included speakers Dr Rebecca Coates, Jessica Bridgfoot, Louise Tegart and Lesley Harding.
