Torika is an artist and educator who produces multidisciplinary projects centering the counter-narrative of marginalised histories and knowledges through curatorial collaboration, photography, video art, documentary, installation and publication. Recent projects including ‘Kirisimasi’, the ‘Community Reading Room’, ‘Somatic Sotia’ and ‘Tabu’ have brought together communities, collections and institutions to centre the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour and build opportunities to recover and re-articulate agency and self-determination in the process and outcomes. Torika is a Lecturer in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at Deakin University.
