Susanne Newton
Susanne Newton is a Councillor at the City of Darebin and former Deputy Mayor. When first elected in 2016, Susanne and the new council voted to declare a climate emergency, the first jurisdiction in the world to do so. She was the only Australian selected for the Vital Voices Engage Fellowship that took her to Florence and the Harvard Kennedy School for training from Marshall Ganz and mentoring from female prime ministers. Susanne is a fellow of the Melbourne School of Government Pathways to Politics for Women program, Vice President of the NTEU La Trobe Branch, treasurer of the Victorian Local Governance Association, and works in communications at the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research.
