Steph Hughes

Steph Hughes is an illustrator, printmaker, musician and community art facilitator from Melbourne, Australia.

After starting out creating band artwork and zines, Steph has rolled into diverse illustrative projects with the Melbourne Museum, the TAC, Golden Plains Festival, Oxfam, Guide Dogs Association – and an array of editorial work, logos, maps and murals for the community. Steph loves loves the process of visually storytelling and synthesising all sorts of ideas into drawings for her community and beyond.

Throughout 2020, Steph collaborated with youth and elderly people from the Moreland City Council/Coburg area to make three murals – promoting connection remotely, through art-making in letters, zines and online. She has also recently been collaborating with Playable Streets on a program called ‘Kidstruments’ – where kids invent instruments and a team of grown ups actually make them! This has begun its life online during physical distancing – as an Artplay/Melbourne City Council program, and a Wyndham City Council program, and is in development for its next stages.
