Kate Golding

Kate Golding is a settler Australian artist based in Melbourne who examines colonisation and representation of people and place through long-term projects. Her current focus is First Nation sovereignty, the memorialisation of Captain Cook and the creation of counter-monuments. Through incorporating lens-based and alternative photographic processes Golding seeks to question the history signified through colonial commemorations and monuments. The artist acknowledges the Wurundjeri people on whose land she lives and works. She offers respect to elders – past, present and future and extends this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, acknowledging that sovereignty has never been ceded.
