Janette Hoe has been a creator and performer of dance for Australian and international audiences for over 25 years. Based in Melbourne, her practice is grounded in Butoh, and a sensorial approach informed by somatic, movement-based improvisation modalities.

Janette identifies strongly with her Malaysian-Chinese-Indonesian heritage, devising work that reflect the migrant experience. Preferring to work site-responsively, her works intersect the narratives of embodied time and place, inviting audiences into visually evocative performance worlds where fragments of memory, lived experiences and imagination meet.

Janette has devised over 80 original solo and collaborative works with artists from various artforms, across cultures throughout Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
