Brighid Sammon

Brighid is a Senior Policy Advisor for the Victorian government. Brighid is driven by the purpose of creating equitable and flexible cities.
In 2017, she was named as the Australia Young Planner of the Year by the Planning Institute of Australia for demonstrating leadership in the field of planning, with a focus on affordable housing. In 2018, Brighid was the first RMIT graduate to be awarded a John Monash scholarship which she used to complete an MSc (Urban Management and Development) at Erasmus University in the Netherlands, specialising in land governance. Her research at Erasmus considered the increased financialisation of rental housing in East London.
Brighid is passionate about challenging current perceptions about cities and the way they work. She recently co-founded Australian Planners Declare, a climate and biodiversity crisis declaration network for Australian urban planners to help advocate for, and shape planning policy and regulation. Brighid also teaches at RMIT and Monash University in planning regulation. Her research and ideas have been published and referenced in The Australian, domain.com.au and the Fifth Estate.
